It’s not if I believe in love
But if love believes in me
Oh…
Believe in me

There was something to be said about waking in the morning with no recollection of the night before.

In a strange place.

Fully dressed.

With a sleeping Ortho. Surgeon draped over one’s body.

It was kind of blissful.

Derek opened his eyes slowly, wincing as the morning sunlight peaking through the window stung his sensitized eyes.

He breathed calmly for a few seconds, ignoring the numbness on his left arm that came from Callie having slept on it for hours. He took in his surroundings. The particular décor and the one framed five-by-ten of Johnny Cash bear the bureau on the far right, placed him in her room. He turned his head to the left and regretted it instantly when the headache he didn’t know lied dormant, erupted all the way from the back of his nape. He squeezed his eyes shut and suppressed a groan.

The pain dispersed however, as he took in the scent of her hair. There was the lingering smell of cigarettes and alcohol under the scent of her perfume and he smiled to himself as she shifted beside him and huddled closer, turning to rest her head on his chest. He took the opportunity to move his lifeless arm, wincing again as the sore muscles protested when he folded it to hold her close against him. He felt her leather jacket and realized she, too, was fully dressed.

Good, he thought. If they were going to have sex, he wanted a vivid account of the event and not series of blurry images of debauchery.

Callie groaned and waited a moment, with her eyes still shut--until her head had stopped spinning, “Oh my god--” Her voice hoarse as she rolled off--what she thought--was a passed out, drunk Mark Sloan. She was visibly taken aback, however, when she opened her eyes and was faced with an evidently, hungover, Derek Shepherd instead. A nervous chuckle fell clumsily off her lips and she moved her leg cautiously from where it had been resting over his waist.

“Hi.” She cleared her throat and smiled, before it dawned on her where they were. She, not so discretely, looked down to look at her self and present state of dress--or undress-- and was utterly relieved to find both herself and he, fully dressed, down to their shoes.

“Don’t worry--” he assured her, “--nothing happened. I don’t think.”

‘Thank god for that.” She replied, almost too quickly, then laughed, embarrassed, “I mean--never mind.” She shook her head and released a heavy breath as she attempted to recount the events of the previous night. And failed. “What the hell happened last night?”

“I--” he started--his brow furrowed in confusion as he thought of his next words, but found he had no answer, “--I have no idea, but I’m pretty sure I’m too old for whatever did happen because my entire body aches and I’m pretty sure I will fall on my face if I try to get up.”

“Hmm--” She frowned, “--you’re a little rusty, grandpa…”

He smiled and tilted his head, bemused, “Grandpa--” he sneered, “--it’s easy to say things like that when you don’t know first hand.”

Her eyebrow went up in amusement, “Know first hand, what, exactly?” She asked boldly.

He looked over at her and his eyes squinted playfully, “You sure you want to play this game when you’ve got pink silly string in your hair?”

Callie’s smile faded and she reached up to pull several pieces of silly string out of her hair, “Damn it.” He laughed and she turned towards him with a menacing look on her face, “what are you laughing at? You’ve got whiskers painted on your face, and I hope it’s permanent marker.”

He quickly grew worried as he reached up to rub his cheek. He looked at his palm, and as he feared--black paint. “What the HELL happened last night?!”

“Will you two shut UP?!”

They both sat up slowly in time to see Cristina crawl slowly out of Callie’s room and disappear into the living room. Their heads then turned in the opposite direction as Lexie pushed herself off the floor, where she had been sleeping, and walked out, dragging her feet, “Never--doing that again--” She mumbled sleepily, not long after they caught sight of Mark walking cross the living room and into the kitchen, where they heard him crash into a chair.

Callie reached up to scratch her head, retrieving more silly string. She laughed and he turned to meet her mirthful gaze in silence.

He shrugged and shook his head, ’I have no idea what’s going on. Did you drug me?”

“And myself apparently,” She replied.

He got lost in her eyes for a second and she smiled awkwardly as their hands touched where they rested on the mattress.

“Maybe we did have sex--” She suggested to break the ice.

“I think I’d remember.” He replied.

She could have sworn her heart skipped a couple of beats and she sighed before scooting off the bed, “I’m going to go brush my teeth.”

“I’ll make coffee.” He retorted, hopping off the bed as she made her way into the bathroom and closed the door.

Callie emerged from her bedroom minutes later, fresh face and hair pulled back, to find the strangest picture of domesticity she had ever witnessed.

Lexie sat, slumped over the table, her cheek pressed against the flat surface while she gripped the coffee filled mug sitting beside a plate of stacked pancakes. Mark sat across from her, pushing around cold cereal with a spoon in the bowl in front of him. Cristina sat on the countertop, sipping on a cup of coffee, while Derek happily bit into a forkful of honey dripping pancakes near the stove.

“Hi.” He greeted her with a smile that almost seemed childlike.

“Hello.” She replied with a laugh, “You made breakfast. For everyone.”

“I did.” He answered back proudly, his eyes quickly falling on the plate he had taken extra care in preparing, that rested on the counter.

Mark looked up then, gagging inwardly at the exchange before forcing himself to eat a spoonful of cereal.

“That’s for you, if you’re hungry.” Derek further added.

Callie smirked, peering over Mark at the pancakes and eggs, and the coffee beside it. Her stomach protested and clenched at just the smell of the food and she winced apologetically, “I think coffee is good.”

“I thought so.” he replied, leaning over the counter to hand her the respective mug,

After quietly sipping her coffee, Callie looked up at the group and casually asked, “So--what the hell happened last night?” Cristina froze, Mark found interest in his breakfast, and Lexie groaned against the tabletop.

*************************************************************************************

“There were strippers.” Mark informed Callie in a low, tone that came along with a flirty smile as he walked up beside her and they walked down the hall together, towards the elevator.

Callie looked over and frowned in question, before it dawned on her what he was referring to, “Oh!” She exclaimed, then smiled curiously, “Really?”

“Yeah--” He chuckled as they walked onto the elevator, “--I’m getting these tiny fragments.” he pushed the button to the accurate floor, “It’s like an acid trip. Everything’s kind of hazy and coming to me in stages. Naked girls. Red Headed Sluts.” He leaned toward her, “It’s a drink.”

“Wow--I do not remember any of that…” She replied as the doors closed. Then gasped and turned to look at him, “No, wait! I do remember Little Grey dancing on a table with Cristina!”

“Oh my god--” He laughed, “--what the hell happened last night?”

“I don’t know.” Callie replied, shaking her head, “Funny thing is, I don’t feel hungover, which is great, but odd.”

“Yeah.” He thought for a second, a smirk on his face as he stared up at the number lights change as they passed floor by floor, “You also--kissed me.”

“Really?” She asked offhandedly.

“And you kissed Little Grey…”

She Froze and stared blankly ahead as mark quickly dissolved into uncontrollable laughter beside her.

“Oh my god…” She groaned. “--oh shit…”

“Relax--”

“Another Intern?! This is so embarrassing!”

“I doubt anyone remembers…”

She sighed heavily and closed her eyes for a second, “This sucks…I’m never drinking again.”

“…no one remembers anything, actually…”

The elevator stopped then and as the doors opened, they were met by a shocked and flushed Lexie Grey who stared at Callie as if she’d just seen a ghost, then turned sharply and scurried away.

“I think she remembers.” Callie stated before Mark bent over laughing and they stepped off the elevator, Mark heading off in the opposite direction.

“Hey.” Derek greeted Callie at seeing her round the corner.

“Hey.”  She greeted back, stopping to face him, the silly antics from the night before suddenly pushed back to a corner of her mind for better examination later.

She smiled over at him, quietly, her eyes glinting. He felt uncomfortable. That had definitely not happened in a while. “I figured out what we did last night.”

“Oh yeah?” She asked, her tone holding something other than curiosity.

He nodded, tucking his pen back into his coat pocket before clearing his throat, “Intern party.”

“Oh, no…” She groaned inwardly, biting her bottom lip after making him laugh.

“Keeps you young, huh?”

“And disoriented.” She added, staring at his lips for a long instant, before, feeling bold, she leaned forward, tilted her head up and kissed him, long and hard, her hand on the back of his neck, eyes closed. It wasn’t all tongue and pornographic. She, more than anything--just wanted to kiss him.

He smiled, stunned as she pulled away and licked her lips. He tilted his head to the side questioningly and when she giggled, he chuckled, ignoring the side glances the passersby sent their way, pretending NOT to be staring. “What was that for?”

She shrugged, “Just wanted to see if you were interested.” She paused and leaned in flirtatiously, “So, are you interested?”

“Oh, I am definitely interested.”

“Good.” She nodded, leaning in further, “Because I’m interested to see if McDreamy looks as good under the lab coat and scrubs as the hair implies.” She smiled again at the look of amusement on his face as she walked away.

*************************************************************************************
At six o’clock, promptly, Callie was pleasantly surprised to see Derek waiting for her in the lobby, standing properly in his Cashmere coat, eyes glued to his Blackberry. She shook her head as she stepped out, “Pretty boy…” She mumbled to herself.

She took in his relaxed posture against the front desk, one ankle leisurely crossed over the other, one single lock of hair out of place--that she figured was probably intentional. She took a deep breath. Held it, released. And licked her lips as she advanced. She would have never admitted it before, but damn it, McDreamy was a good looking man.

“Come here often?”

He jumped at the low, husky voice and warm breath on his ear, and instantly smiled when Callie chuckled lightly, “Hey.” He took the liberty to lean in and steal a quick kiss then. Her lips were compliant, so he took another one. “You want to get some dinner? Or do you want to catch a movie? Maybe get a drink--”

“I don’t want a drink, I’m not hungry and the only entertainment I’m in the mood for, requires the both of us naked, in my bed, across the street in--ten minutes, maybe?”

“Does it really take you ten minutes to get home from here?” He inquired curiously.

“No--” She shrugged, “--but it might take you a couple extra minutes to pick up a bottle of wine from Joe’s before meeting me there.”

He smiled, placed a chaste kiss on her lips, and eyed her up and down as he started to walk away.

She smiled back and was pretty sure he’d blush at the filthy disgusting things she was picturing as she chewed her bottom lip and waved him goodbye.

Derek sprinted out the hospital and across the street, to Joe’s. He entered the crowded bar--crowded for a Tuesday night-- and as if he’d been hit in the face with a figurative rolled up script of jumbled visuals from the previous night, remembered a bigger part of some of the festivities.

A snapshot of Callie dancing on the bar top and ordering drinks for the house skidded through his mind, and he had to stop near the door to chuckle to himself.

He spotted Mark and, glancing at the properly perched bottles behind the bar, suddenly remembered what he was there for in the first place. A few long strides brought him to the bar, and he ordered a bottle of the most expensive bottle of red wine Joe had to offer, smiling over at Mark when he turned to greet him.

“Wine, huh?” Mark nodded into his glass, sipping the scotch, then thinking better of the small sip, and swallowing a large gulp.

“Wine.” Derek replied assertively, giving his friend the once over before patting his shoulder firmly and squeezing affectionately, “WINE.”

“Hmm.” Mark nodded again, his jaw clenched, suddenly ridiculously thirsty, he gulped down the rest of his drink.

“You’re--okay with this, right?” Derek asked as a bottle was handed to him, “I mean…aren’t you?” He asked, worried, his brow creased.

“Oh--yeah!” Mark exclaimed enthusiastically, “YES. If she, for some ridiculous reason finds you attractive after being with THIS--” He motioned at himself smugly, “--then please. Be my guest. You’re a braver man than I thought. High self esteem. Good for you.”

“Shut up.” Derek rolled his eyes as he grabbed the bottle off the bar top and headed out.

Mark’s teasing smile slowly fell as Derek walked away and cleared his throat, lifted his glass and tapped the bottom of it on the bar top a couple of times before setting it back down. He inhaled deeply and upon exhaling, scratched his well grown stubble and tapped his foot anxiously on the floor. His mind reeled with confusion and happiness--and guilt, and a bunch of other emotions that he was all too new to.

He released a low groan and wordlessly, signaled a nearby bartender for a refill.

“Come in!” Derek heard Callie call from inside the apartment.

He smiled expectedly and made himself inside, taking the liberty of shrugging off his coat and placing it on the rack at the door. He made sure to leave the wine in the fridge before following the distinct sounds of Callie ruffling in her bedroom. And what he found when he gently pushed the door open, made him his entire body alert, and relaxed all at once.

She wasn’t doing anything special. She wasn’t putting on a show for him or trying to entice him. Well, not purposely anyway. She was standing near the nightstand, placing a bracelet she’d just removed from her wrist down. She was barefoot, and simply--standing there. But Derek felt the simplicity of her actions and her mere presence so natural, that he allowed his eyes a moment to drink her in.

She turned and smiled at him standing in the doorway, “You made it.”

“I did.” He nodded, as he made his way inside and closed the door. “Wine’s in the fridge.”

She nodded her agreement as she slowly moved toward him and he did the same.

“Do you want to have some now or--” He started at reaching her, encircling her waist, “--later?” he kissed her.

“I think, later.” She replied. A smile against his lips, while she pushed his coat off his shoulders.

“That’s what I was thinking.” He replied as she pulled his dress shirt from the waist of his pants and pulled at his belt.

“Great minds…” She added as she victoriously managed to push his pants down until they were pooled  at his feet. “Cristina says you begged her to draw whiskers on your face last night.”

“Yeah--” he nodded regretfully as she giggled and got him out of his shirt before he leaned forward, kissed her and urged her backwards until the back of her knees hit the edge of the bed and she lied back promptly, “--I remembered some things, too.”

She released a heavy breath and glanced up at the ceiling and adjusted herself comfortably as he made due with ridding her of her clothes. “Yeah? Like what?”

He looked up from where he had unbuttoned her jeans and smirked, “Like you making out with Lexie.”

She groaned, then laughed lightly as he slid her shirt up and kissed her belly softly. “I wish I remembered more. I’ve got nothing.”

“Well--” He kissed all along her belly, losing himself in the smooth feel of her skin, his mind cloudy with the taste before scooting up to lie beside her, his hand slowly moving up to brush her bangs out of her eyes, “--as soon as I remember more, I’ll let you know.”

“Okay.” She smiled as she reached up to cradle his cheek with her palm. “Get down here and kiss me.”

He did not need to be told twice. He was soon doing just what she had asked and he was afraid, for a second, that he might be okay with doing just that if it meant she’d be happy. But fear lasted only a short second, until they had rid of most of each other’s clothes, and Derek found himself at Callie’s mercy.

She nipped and licked just under his jaw. She smiled against his skin as she slid lower and barely grazed his nipple with her teeth. He groaned and his hips thrust up as her hand groped him through his briefs and her mouth continued to leave a hot trail of kisses over his chest and stomach.

“Jesus--I’m really glad we’re not drunk….”

She laughed and lifted her head to meet her eyes as best she could in the darkened room, “What?”

“I’m just saying--” He grabbed firm hold of her arms, a minor girlish squeal escaping her as he pulled her up to straddle him, “--I’m glad we’re both sober enough to remember this.” He didn’t wait for her to reply as he leaned in and kissed her lips, biting on lower lip before sucking on it and smoothing his tongue over the sore spot.

“Mmm…” She moaned as he kissed her ear and her neck, while he undid her bra in record time and she pulled back, amused brow up. She nodded approvingly, “Nice.”

“All I get is nice, huh?” He replied in a dark, groan that he felt was rather uncharacteristic, but then again, she had a way of making him feel like someone else.

He caught  her eyes again after sending his boxers and her panties flying and he laughed. It was a chuckle at first, then a full on belly laugh.

Callie chuckled, but her smile soon faded into a frown as Derek, lost in mirth, buried his face in the crook of her neck and he felt his deep chortle against her chest. “Um--” She started, her hand on his shoulder, “--I’m all for a good laugh, but--this is a little inappropriate. Seeing, how I’m--in an extreme state undress.” She cleared her throat as he laughed harder, “I’ve never had a man laughing--while I’m naked. I’m not going to laugh, it’s kind of pissing me off. It’s definitely not a ’Dear, Penthouse’ letter…”

“I’m sorry--” He apologized, hoping the kisses he was dropping on lips and cheeks helped his case at all. The expectant scowl on her face told him it wasn’t really. “--I just remembered…” He cleared his throat and composed himself as best he could, the reality of the situation he was under sinking in. His body relaxed and melted against her body as she cradled him between her legs and he smiled warmly through a soft chuckle, “--Cristina flashed about half the bar and tried to make Joe feel them.”

She laughed them, sinking her fingers into his short hair as he kissed the corner of her lips and pulled her leg up over his hip, “That is pretty funny. I hope there are pictures.”

“Yeah well--” He replied before kissing her again, his hand skimming up her side, his thumb tracing the side of her breast, his chest firmly against hers. She moaned as his tongue found the roof of her mouth and he groaned in return before pulling back, “--it’s not so funny anymore.”

She lifted her head and lied back down, adjusting to pull her hair free from under her.

“You’re beautiful.” He told her frankly, and watched as her cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

She pulled him down by the back of his head and held him there, her hips thrusting slowly upward.

He let her lead his hips over hers, and he released a soft groan as he slid inside her.

She moaned and panted as she pulled her lips from his.

He paused as she adjusted around him, and her eyes closed slowly, him grunting as he pulled back and thrust smoothly forward.

Her lips parted as he felt him fill her. She was pulled back from herself with his lips on her chin.

“Hey--” He started, now panting a little as she met his thrusts with equal force, “--you with me?”

“Mm--” She smiled up at him, lifting her head to kiss his lips chastely, “--I’m so with you, trust me.”

The next few minutes seemed to lap over one another as he pulled her up to straddle him and she gripped his shoulders tightly, her moans fading into his groans as he braced her hips firmly, pulling her against him as their pace quickened and she found his lips in a heated kiss. He moved up, thrusting harder, and angling his hips just so until he’d found that spot that made her groan like THAT.

She moaned and held on tightly as he held her close and she whimpered as her orgasm hit her with such a force, her back arched almost painfully, her hips jerked against his and her body soon went numb against him.

The two soon laid under the covers, basking in the haze of after glow, her on her stomach, hair in her face as she panted and caught her breath, he, beside her, doing the same before leaning over to kiss her shoulder.

He felt her laugh under his lips and he looked up, brushing her hair back, “What?”

“I just remembered Cristina and her flashing marathon.” She took a deep breath and closed her eyes briefly, “It was a magical night.”

He chuckled along, before hearing a distinct vibration coming from the floor. He groaned and quickly climbed out of bed, finding his pants somewhere near the door and pulling out his pager to silence it. “Damn it. I have to go.”

He turned to see her putting, her head rested on her hand as she admired his ass from where she laid, “Too bad. I was enjoying the view.”

He smirked as he dressed quickly, then moved to the bed to place a lingering kiss on her lips. He combed his fingers through her hair and smiled, “I’ll be back.”

He stared for a  good while after that, his smile slowly fading into something Callie couldn’t quite place, but she felt a coldness immediately. “Are you okay?” She asked, perplexed, “You haven’ changed your mind now that I gave it up, have you?” She teased as she sat up, sheet up to her chest.

“I just remembered something else from last night.” He said, rather coldly, as he slipped on his jacket.

“Did Cristina flash you, too?” She inquired teasingly, but she was taken aback at the way he looked at her at reaching the door. He seemed angry and hurt.

“You really don’t remember last night at all?”

“Uh--no, nothing. What’s wrong--”

“You and Mark!” He exclaimed loudly, his hands forming into fists, aching to punch something--someone in particular--he took a deep breath and continued, “--he…told you  he’s in love with you.”

She froze where she sat, hoping it was all a bad dream, “Derek--we were all dr--”

“And then you let him kiss you!” He cut in, “For a while. The two of you--” He scratched his scalp anxiously, forcing himself to look at her and not take his anger out on her, “--I don’t care…if he…you need to evaluate your feelings for him, if you want to give this a shot.”

“Derek, come on--”

“No, don’t talk to me right now!” He yelled, then stopped and made an attempt at calming himself with a deep breath, “If you talk to me, I will stop being angry--and right now, I WANT to be angry. You--he asked you if you loved him, and you didn’t say no. So, maybe you should think about that right now.”

“Derek--”

“I have to go.” He shook his head, and without another word in her direction stepped out of the room.

She sat on the bed long after he was gone, the exact event Derek was talking about, playing in her head over and over like a slideshow she didn’t want to watch and her mouth went dry as she remembered.

*************************************************************************************

Mark paced his room like a caged animal. His nerves pinched and keeping him alert, despite the large amounts of alcohol he had consumed with every intention of settling his overactive mind.

The memories had rushed back in one fast pull and suddenly, he didn’t know what to make of it. He didn’t know what Callie would make of them.

He advanced toward the mini bar in the far end of the room, only to be pulled back by the soft knock on his door. He stopped and turned slowly, slow, long strides soon bringing him to open the door. And what he was faced him, he was not expecting.

“So, you love me now?” She asked accusingly. She had been crying and he felt guilty immediately.

He swallowed audibly and said nothing. He had nothing to offer. No apology, no excuse. So he stepped aside and held the door open, offering his silence instead.

She stood in the doorway for a while, eyeing him through tired eyes before her body moved her inside without her permission.

The door closed with a soft click behind her.
